Your Dog’s Perfect Shoreline Weekend: Coffee, Parks, and Play

Weekend adventures start with a relaxed walk to explore new sniffs in Shoreline.

Whether you're looking to fill a Saturday with nature or enjoy a slow Sunday morning with your pup, there are plenty of dog-friendly weekend activities in Shoreline that offer the right mix of movement, enrichment, and bonding time.

Start with a Nature Walk at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park

This local gem offers sweeping Puget Sound views, beach access, and trails for dogs and humans to enjoy! Stick to the upper loop for a scenic walk, or head down to the shore for some beach play time. Early mornings tend to be quieter, making this a great option for dogs who prefer calm surroundings. Plus, pups can play off-leash in designated beach areas from November 1st to March 15th. Check here for more information.

Coffee and Brunch at Blackbird Cafe & Bar

After getting some of those morning wiggles out, stop by Blackbird Cafe & Bar, which has a dog-friendly patio to relax in! They have pup cups, treats, and water bowls for your furry friend, and delicious breakfast options from 9am to noon. Stopping by later in the day? Check out their lunch options, which are available from 11am to 4pm!

Afternoon Option 1: Leashed Walk at Hamlin Park

Hamlin Park’s wooded trails are shaded and peaceful, making them great for an afternoon stroll. It’s one of Rex & Roxy’s favorite stops, with a dense trail system perfect for pups who want a slow stroll and those who have a little more energy to expend! Complete with wide paths and single track trails, varying incline options, and plenty of shade for hot summer days!

Afternoon Option 2: Social Time at Shoreview Off-Leash Dog Park

If your dog is more sociable and looking for some interaction with other furry friends, Shoreview’s fenced area gives them room to stretch out and play. It’s a community-supported off-leash area that was recently updated and has plenty of surrounding trails for pups who prefer to watch the action from afar.

Late Afternoon Stop at The Hidden Door

If you're looking to wrap up your dog-friendly outing with a relaxed vibe, head to The Hidden Door. This neighborhood bar offers a shaded patio where dogs are welcome, complete with water bowls and treats on hand. They host live music and karaoke nights, and have plenty of adult beverages to sip on while you relax with your pup! It’s a good choice for owners who want to linger while their dog relaxes comfortably by their side.

Evening Wind-Down: Backyard Enrichment with a Treat from the Barkery

After a full day out, wrap things up with some low-key enrichment: a frozen lick mat, food puzzle, or scent game in the yard. If you’re looking for a special treat to give your dog, swing by the Barkery on your way home for a fresh made treat or chew! After a day full of adventure, they’ll love finishing it off with some low-key time at home.

Keep It Routine, Not Rushed

Weekends can be tempting for jam-packed plans, but most dogs thrive with predictable pacing. Start with one main outing per day, and always balance with rest and decompression time. You’ll avoid overstimulation and keep future outings enjoyable.

Planning Tips for Weekend Dog Adventures

  • Pack water, a water bowl, and poop bags

  • Keep dogs leashed unless in designated off-leash areas

  • Avoid high-traffic patios during peak meal hours

  • Watch for hot pavement and opt for trails, grass, and shaded patios on warmer days

Consistent Walks Make Weekends Smoother

Dogs who get weekday walks are generally easier weekend companions. At Rex & Roxy, we offer consistent weekday walking routines that help your dog navigate different environments with calm and confidence.
