Three Years of Rex & Roxy: Meet the Pets Behind the Name

Three years ago, Rex & Roxy began with an idea: to care for pets with the same love, patience, and attention we give our own. And while our company has grown and changed so much since those early days, the two pets who inspired our name will always be at the heart of it.

Rex and Roxy were both incredibly special and deeply beloved members of our family. They each brought their own unique personalities, quirks, and endless amounts of love into our lives, and they helped shape the kind of pet care company we wanted to create. So, as we celebrate three wonderful years of Rex & Roxy, it feels only right to shine the spotlight on the two pets who started it all.
Meet Rex: The Cat Who Chose Us
After becoming a single mom, my kids and I decided it was finally time to welcome the cat we had always wanted. We spent quite a while searching shelters, visiting several in hopes of finding just the right match, but had practically given up. Then we stopped at SAFE.

My then-two-year-old pointed right at Rex. When Rex came out to meet us, my toddler immediately reached out and, I’m ashamed to say, yanked him right by the tail. But instead of running away, Rex simply turned around, started purring, and rubbed all over him.
That was it. We knew he was the one.

Rex: The Sweetest Cat You Could Ever Meet
He absolutely loved being squished and hugged and had such a gentle, affectionate personality that sometimes he seemed more like a dog than a cat. Rex also had a particular talent for knocking things off the counter and then looking directly at us afterward, as if waiting to see whether he was actually in trouble. And somehow, that mischievous little look only made us love him more.

He came into our lives during a difficult chapter and gave us so much comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. He had a way of making even the hardest days feel a little lighter.

Meet Roxy: A Loveable Fluffball
Roxy is our family dog, and while she may be a little too large to comfortably qualify as a lap dog, that has never stopped her from insisting that she absolutely belongs there. She has always been full of personality, especially when it comes to her older sister, Penny. Roxy loves to annoy Penny, chase after her ball, and steal it away whenever she gets the chance. Her favorite part? Dropping the ball right on the floor afterward, as if to say, “Okay, now what?”

These days, Roxy is living her best beach-dog life out on Whidbey Island. She has always loved an adventure, and it seems only fitting that a dog who inspired part of our name gets to spend her days enjoying the water, fresh air, and plenty of room to roam.
We Love Our Pets & Yours
Rex and Roxy taught us just how much our pets become part of our families. They bring us comfort on hard days, laughter when we need it most, and so many little moments that become some of our favorite memories.

That same love is at the heart of everything we do at Rex & Roxy. For the past three years, we have had the incredible privilege of getting to know your pets, too. We have watched them grow, celebrated their quirks, joined them on adventures, comforted them when they needed a little extra care, and become part of their everyday routines.
Here’s to three years of Rex & Roxy, and to all the pets who make it so special.
